The African digital agenda

The COVID pandemic has underscored how access to and use of technological tools can be vital in the success of diverse economies and governments, as well as the citizens navigating both. This is as true for Europe as it is for Africa, where a consensus is emerging on what digitalization looks like when decided by Africans for Africa. While foreign investors have given much attention to specific African developments in fintech and e-commerce, African initiatives in other digitalization areas – as well as the digital infrastructure that will underpin it all – deserves greater support.

In episode #18 of Campus 10178, the ESMT Berlin podcast, we speak with Dr. Olumide Abimbola, the founder and executive director of the African Policy Research Institute (APRI) in Berlin. The young think tank provides analysis to shape European approaches to African policymaking and to inform the policy positions of African stakeholders seeking support and investment from Europe. In focus on the podcast: the African digital agenda. Abimbola reviews trans-African approaches to digitalization and details an overarching agenda on digital infrastructure, e-government, cybersecurity, and e-commerce.
