ESMT Berlin and DIHK cooperate in global executive education

ESMT Berlin and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) will collaborate in the management education of international executives.

The cooperation brings together the executive education offerings and expertise of ESMT with the international network of the 140 Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs) coordinated by the DIHK in 92 countries. The DIHK has also joined the ESMT Foundation, the operator and majority shareholder of the international business school.

In view of protectionist tendencies worldwide, both the DIHK and ESMT regard the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of education as a bridge between countries to be imperative. Together with the AHKs, ESMT seeks to continuously improve the conditions for German companies conducting business in the respective countries by educating local employees. For example, the cooperation partners are planning to develop and implement a global Executive MBA program using the blended learning approach of combining online and face-to-face lessons. The program will build upon the physical infrastructure of the local AHKs as well as the digital infrastructure of the ESMT online-learning platform.

The partnership will also focus on educating future leaders in emerging countries. The DIHK will, for example, support the “Industry Immersion Program”, which was launched in 2017 by ESMT and the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in South Africa. This program prepares mathematically trained students for employment in business. Using its network of member companies operating in Africa, the DIHK will help further expanding the internship program for the local participants.

“We see great potential for both sides with this cooperation,” stresses ESMT President Jörg Rocholl. “Our school attracts students from all over the world. Together with the DIHK and the AHKs, we will increase our representation abroad and be able to offer an excellent education to more talented young leaders from around the globe. With our Hidden Champions Institute (HCI), we have the know-how to particularly support the many medium-sized German enterprises operating globally with customized executive education programs.”

“Well-trained specialists and executives are decisive for the success of a company. This applies not only at home in Germany, but also especially abroad,” says DIHK Managing Director Martin Wansleben. “The AHKs know the local markets and are already helping companies to find suitable personnel today. In many places, they also organize dual training programs in business, industry, or languages. They support the many hidden champions who form the basis of Germany’s export success. Cooperation with ESMT is another important building block for securing skilled employees and strengthening our small and medium-sized world market leaders.”
