Zane Baity, MIM 2021

Zane Baity, MIM alumnaZane is currently doing the Graduate Program - Finance at Deutsche Börse (the German Stock Exchange)

What were your personal highlights from your time at ESMT Berlin?
I found great friends from different backgrounds and different countries. The diversity in the classroom taught me a lot about working with other people with their diverse cultures and style.

What were your biggest learnings from the MIM program?
Time management. I was in the Finance and Investment track, and the curriculum is very compact with very demanding assignments and exams. I specifically admire Professor of Finance Guillermo Baquero's teaching style. I learned a lot during all his classes, such as Alternative Investment (Hedge Funds) and Risk Portfolio Management. Besides, our track had many simulations, including leveraged buyouts (LBO) for private equity, and it was so much fun!

How have your studies at ESMT influenced your career thus far?
ESMT gives access to a lot of job postings, and the network is incredible! I had several workshops related to CV writing, interviews, etc. Besides, the alumni bond is very strong. I can easily reach out to ESMT's alumni to ask questions, for tips and tricks related to job search. Unequivocally, they were happy to provide insight into the companies they are working for.

Additionally, group projects at ESMT balanced my hard and soft skills, which are instrumental during job interviews, especially when it comes to case study interviews.

Any thoughts, tips or tricks you would like to share with future students?
Focus on academics is essential, however, do not forget to thrive on your soft skills. Most of the time, your network will be the one who helps you to get your dream job!
