The Master in Global Management (MGM) at ESMT Berlin prepares you to succeed in a fast-changing, global business landscape. Practical experience is an integral part of the curriculum, offering you opportunities to apply what you learn, gain industry insight, and grow your international network.
From global internships to consulting projects, the MGM gives you the chance to build real-world experience that adds value to your career from day one.
You will earn credits towards your master’s degree by completing a mandatory internship between April and September of your first year.
Your internship must be at least 12 weeks in duration, though many students choose to stay up to six months. Internships can be completed either in Germany or abroad.
I was able to follow Steffen in his daily life as CEO, attending high-level meetings and working on strategic projects and presentations.
One of my favorite experiences so far began when METRO AG came to ESMT for a campus event. Having worked in gastronomy from high school until my bachelor’s, I was already interested in the industry. I was particularly impressed by the team and the vision of CEO Steffen Greubel.
Instead of going through a standard application process later, I decided to walk up to him after his talk and ask him directly for an internship in the CEO office. That conversation led me to Düsseldorf, where I spent four months at the Metro headquarters.
I was able to follow Steffen in his daily life as CEO, attending high-level meetings and working on strategic projects and presentations. A major highlight was accompanying him on a company visit to Italy, where I witnessed firsthand what true leadership looks like in practice: not only behind a desk but through direct interaction with the team on the ground.
From identifying the right opportunity based on your goals to preparing for interviews and leveraging your internship experience for your career, ESMT’s Career Development Center (CDC) is with you every step of the way.
