Your ESMT Community: Engaged, Evolving, Empowered

The ESMT alumni network is more than a list of names - it’s a global, evolving community shaped by the contributions, connections, and energy of its members. It grows stronger every time alumni come together to share experiences, offer support, and create opportunities.
At the center of this community is the Alumni Council, a group of committed graduates who help guide alumni engagement. Working closely with the Alumni Relations team, the Council ensures that the network remains inclusive, responsive, and aligned with ESMT’s values. Their leadership shows that real impact comes from within - from a shared belief in giving back and moving forward together.
Surrounding and supporting this core are our regional chapters and affinity groups - local and interest-based communities that make it easy to connect in ways that suit your life and interests. Whether you're mentoring, attending events, leading initiatives, or simply showing up - your involvement strengthens the network for everyone.

Alumni Council Handbook

Alumni Council: Voices that Lead

The Alumni Council is a group of 11 elected alumni from around the world, working together to represent the voices, ideas, and interests of the wider ESMT community. As a team of alumni champions, they collaborate with the university, local chapters, and affinity clubs to keep the network connected, inclusive, and full of meaningful opportunities to engage.

Council members are elected every two years and come from a range of backgrounds and programmes. There is no hierarchy - everyone brings something unique to the table. Together, they:

  • Reflect what matters most to alumni
  • Lead initiatives that promote connection, learning, and inclusion
  • Support ESMT’s mission in areas like sustainability, innovation, and social impact

Current Council Timeline

Every two years, the ESMT alumni community elects a new group of Council members to help guide and shape alumni engagement. Here’s how it works:

  • Nomination & Campaign – Alumni can apply to run for Council, sharing their motivations and vision with the community.
  • Online Voting – All alumni are invited to vote in a secure, accessible online election.
  • Results & Onboarding – Once votes are counted, new members are announced and begin their journey with an onboarding session to get up to speed.

The election process is inclusive, transparent, and designed to welcome fresh voices and diverse perspectives into alumni leadership.

Chapters and Clubs Handbook

Chapters & Clubs: Local Roots, Global Reach

Our Regional Chapters and Alumni Clubs are led by dedicated volunteer alumni. These groups organise local meetups, speaker events, social gatherings, and collaborative initiatives that keep the ESMT spirit alive across cities, countries, and industries.

There are three main types of communities within the network:

  • Regional Chapters: Bringing alumni together locally in cities like Berlin, Munich, London etc.
  • Affinity Clubs: Connecting those with shared interests such as Women in Leadership, Entrepreneurship, or Circular Economy.
  • Corporate Clubs: Strengthening ESMT ties within companies, connecting colleagues who share a common workplace.

Whether you join a chapter, lead an event, mentor a fellow alum, or simply connect with others, every action adds value. There’s no single way to participate - every contribution helps keep the network vibrant, inclusive, and meaningful.
