The global banking industry – downfalls and learnings

Focusing on a variety of topics, such as Brexit, digitalization, and climate change as well as their effect on the global banking industry, Dombret analyzes the reasons for and effects of the financial crisis in 2008. He also sheds light on the decisions that led to the new regulatory framework, which he played a major role in shaping.  The book titled “Stable Banks in Challenging Times” and published with Elgar online also includes an exclusive interview Dombret gave during his tenure for the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Dombret’s insights give an exciting look behind the scenes of global financial regulation and policy. After the global financial crisis Deutsche Bundesbank amongst others made considerable efforts to fight the imbalance of the existing financial system, which led to the crisis. Several regulatory components were installed to stabilize the system, make it more transparent, and thus restore the confidence in credit institutions worldwide.

Dombret, who also served as a board member on the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank from 2014, represented Germany at the G7, G20, the International Monetary Fund, the Financial Stability Board, the Basel Committee, the OECD, and the Bank for International Settlements. He is an adjunct senior research scholar at Columbia University and has been a member of the ESMT Supervisory Board since 2015.
