I am a professor at ESMT Berlin and holder of the Lufthansa Group Chair in Innovation.
I received my Ph.D. from Chalmers University of Technology and did a postdoc at Stanford University. I have also been an assistant professor and an Advanced Institute of Management Research Fellow with the UK Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group at Imperial College Business School. I have also had visiting appointments at Aarhus University, Bath University, Linköping University and now Stockholm School of Economics.
I teach classes for MBAs, EMBAs, executives as well as PhD students on digitalization, innovation, entrepreneurship, and networks. I also consult and advise startups, large multinationals, and government organizations on issues around innovation and networks. I also do keynote presentations. I was recognized as one of the Best 40 Under 40 Professors in the world by Poets & Quants in 2017. I have done consulting, executive education, and keynotes for clients such as Adidas, Aditya Birla, Allianz, Axel Springer, Bayer, BMW, Bosch, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom, EnBW, Geopost, Henkel, Klöckner, KPMG, Lufthansa, PWC, Schott, Siemens, Testo, TUV, Unicredit, Volvo, PWC, as well as many startups.
In my ongoing research with some great co-authors, I investigate how new ideas and innovations are developed in networks and communities. The ongoing projects use large-scale analysis of networks, which I integrate with a deeper appreciation for what content flows through networks. I seek to study novel questions which can advance the academic literature while at the same time focusing on issues that can affect how managers think about their business to help them make better decisions.
My research has been published in top academic outlets such as Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal. I have also published several papers in practitioner outlets such as California Management Review, Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review. My research has won numerous awards; some of my papers are among the most cited and downloaded in their area. I try to make my papers open access, but if they are behind a firewall, then please reach out to me.
I currently serve as an Associate Editor for Strategic Management Journal since 2023. I served as an Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Journal between 2013-2016.
