Firms with exclusive brokerage positions in their collaboration networks outshine their counterparts by an average margin of more than 7% in crisis conditions, according to recent research conducted at ESMT Berlin. The competitive advantage of exclusive brokers stems from their capacity to adapt quickly, and on their own terms, when crisis erupts - unlike their peers trapped in more tightly-knit, constraining networks.

After a successful launch last year, the second Berlin Global Dialogue will take place October 1-2, 2024, at ESMT Berlin. Founded by Lars-Hendrik Röller, former chief economic advisor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Berlin Global Dialogue unites leaders from business, government, and academia to develop joint solutions for the world’s most pressing issues. Under the theme “Building Common Ground,” this year’s summit invites global leaders to find new ways to cooperate amidst volatility and fragmentation.

ESMT Berlin has updated its brand identity with a new logo, color scheme, and tagline “Business as unusual.” This brand transformation comes a little more than 20 years after the international business school’s founding and illustrates its forward-looking identity. The new logo draws inspiration from the iconic Berlin TV tower, which is visible from the ESMT campus in the center of Berlin. The TV tower builds a transmission line and symbolizes collaboration across ideologies and national borders, resonating with ESMT’s commitment to develop entrepreneurial leaders who think globally and act responsibly.

The white paper “Biotech Innovation Hubs in Germany – Divided and Conquered?” by the Institute for Deep Tech Innovation (DEEP) at ESMT Berlin and the international consulting group BCG introduces the Biotech Innovation Hub Index (BIHI) to assess and compare the effectiveness of such hubs in Europe and the U.S. The study, which places a special focus on Europe’s largest economy Germany, reveals that European hubs lag behind those in the U.S. except in academic research quality.

ESMT Berlin, a leader in innovative business education, is significantly expanding its sustainability focus across all facets of the international business school. Building upon a decade of highly successful sustainability initiatives, it is bringing together its diverse and effective programs under one roof: the ESMT Institute for Sustainable Transformation. The institute will bundle the business school’s sustainability activities in the areas of research, teaching, and outreach, thus amplifying their impact and fostering responsible leadership practices that benefit individuals, businesses, and society at large.

SPRIND, the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, has commissioned DEEP – Institute for Deep Tech Innovation at ESMT Berlin to support innovation in circular biomanufacturing. This collaboration launches an exclusive coaching and mentoring program, utilizing the proven Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) methodology, to propel SPRIND Challenge teams towards successful commercialization.

ESMT Berlin is partnering with the three European business schools Cranfield School of Management (UK), Imperial College Business School (UK), and Rotterdam School of Management (Netherlands) for the third consecutive year to promote women in leadership in an online event on February 1.

Underlining its commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and the global business community, ESMT is offering several full and partial scholarships in executive education to promote women in C-level and advanced management positions. Ten scholarships are to be awarded for the three flagship programs: Bringing Technology to Market, Executive Transition Program, and the General Management Seminar.

In Fall 2024, ESMT Berlin, EDHEC Business School, and Imperial College London, three of Europe’s most renowned business schools, will launch a joint master’s degree program. The three-year program Global Economic Transformation & Technology (GETT) Europe will enable graduates to complete an excellent management education in the metropolitan cities of Berlin, Paris, and London, while preparing them for the complex economic and technological challenges of leadership.

In collaboration with Industry Immersion Africa (iiAfrica), ESMT Berlin is supporting the Ghana1000 initiative to encourage university graduates in STEM subjects with a successful start in a career in data analytics. To this end, 1000 graduates will be equipped with important business, digital, and leadership skills in a year-long work readiness program.

ESMT Berlin has installed a photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of its historical main building, covering about 25 percent of its electricity needs in the future. With a total of 893 highly efficient modules on the former GDR State Council building, the PV system achieves a total output of 366 kWp, making it the largest system of its kind in central Berlin. The system is expected to be connected to the electricity grid in January 2024.

Yesterday's CEO dialogue on “Leading Global Champions” brought together 200 CEOs and chairpersons of internationally active family businesses at ESMT Berlin. They engaged in discussions with leading German politicians such as Federal Minister Wolfgang Schmidt, head of the Federal Chancellery, and Carsten Linnemann, deputy party chairperson, Secretary General, and head of the CDU's Programme and Policy Commission. The primary focus was on the successful development of hidden to global champions.
