Prof. Wuermeling will remain on the executive board of the Deutsche Bundesbank until December 31, 2023. Previously, he held senior positions in politics, the financial industry, and administration, including as a state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and a member of the European Parliament.
“I look forward to using my knowledge and experience in the digitalization of money and finance in research and teaching at ESMT in the future,” says Prof. Wuermeling. “I am happy to contribute to the education of students and to deepen the knowledge on opportunities and risks of digital money, digital assets, crypto economy, or tokens, for example.” There is still a large knowledge gap at the interface of financial technology and business. At the Bundesbank, Prof. Wuermeling’s responsibilities included markets, banking supervision, information technology, and the bank’s digital agenda.

Prof. Wuermeling holds a doctorate in law and has taught at the Universities of Bayreuth and Potsdam since 1995. He was appointed honorary professor at the University of Potsdam in 2011. He has published numerous academic publications throughout his career.
