March 28-29, 2022, the dialogue forum Global Solutions Summit 2022 will take place at ESMT Berlin. Jörg Rocholl, president of ESMT, will lead a panel discussion on quality integration of economic and firm performance indicators. ESMT professor Lars-Hendrik Röller will join a panel on the preparedness and resilience of the global health system.

The theme of the Global Solutions Summit 2022, being held in a hybrid format on the ESMT Berlin campus, is “Listen to the world: Promoting social well-being within planetary boundaries.” The Global Solutions Summit proposes policy responses to key global issues being addressed by the G20, G7, and other global governance forums. The dialogue forum provides a platform for Think20 and Think7 task forces to discuss collaborative approaches to G20 and G7 problems among multistakeholder decision-makers. This year's speakers include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Amina J. Mohammed, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the OECD, and Stientje van Veldhove, vice president of the World Resources Institute.

Jörg Rocholl, president of ESMT, will lead a panel discussion on “Integrating quality into economic and firm performance indicators” on the first day of the two-day forum. “G20 countries need to analyze current initiatives around the quality of economic and firm performance indicators, find common ground, and roll out a comprehensive plan to implement such indicators at a macro and micro level,” says Jörg Rocholl. “We need to gain insights on quality indicators and be able to integrate them comprehensively.” The panel includes Andreas Barckow, chair of the International Accounting Standards Board; Melanie Kreis, CFO of the Deutsche Post DHL Group; Hanna Setterberg, affiliate researcher at the Center for Financial Reporting and Auditing at ESMT, and Dennis Snower, president of the Global Solutions Summit Initiative Foundation.

The following day, Lars-Hendrik Röller, professor at ESMT, will participate in the panel “Pandemic preparedness and response – recoupling the global health system.” He will discuss the coordination, distribution, and financing challenges around the pandemic with Nadine Dusberger, partner and head of healthcare, FleischmanHillard Germany; Michael Kremer, professor of economics at the University of Chicago; Anja Langenbucher, Europe director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; and Vera Songwe, UN undersecretary general and executive secretary for UNECA. “The pandemic, which has already lasted more than two years now, has shown how important globalization is. I, therefore, call it a super-globalization event,” says Lars-Hendrik Röller. “We need to get a handle on the nature of the global health system. To do that, ministers need to keep previous commitments and do more to increase fairness in vaccine production and distribution.”

The Global Solutions Summit is the world’s leading forum for translating research-based evidence into policy recommendations for the G20. The goal of the forum is better global governance for the common good. This high-level meeting brings together senior government officials with senior academics, NGO leaders, and international CEOs. ESMT is among the academic partners of the Global Solutions Summit Initiative.
