Nature and economic choice | Markus Hans-Peter Müller | TEDxESMTBerlin

Nature and economic choice - avoiding the tragedy of macro and market failure. The planetary triple crisis our planet experiences is the result of a classical market failure. The systemic value of nature and its ecosystem services are not systematically taken into account while making economic or policy decisions. The talk provides insights on how to solve this problem and why this could be a source for new and further development.

Markus Hans-Peter Müller, born in South Westphalia, studied economics and sinology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Church voluntary activities in his youth initially fostered his interest in human motives for economic action. A varied subsequent career included working for Allianz Life Insurance in Shanghai before he joined Deutsche Bank as executive assistant to the former chief economist professor Dr. Norbert Walter. Markus's research focus is on the structural transformation of economies and societies as well as sustainability. He has held several government advisory and teaching roles (ranging from Frankfurt to Tashkent) and has also managed to publish several well-received books. Illuminem selected him as one of its top 10 thought-leaders for 2022.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
