Schäfer’s research focuses on organizational culture and moral psychology, with expertise in how unethical behavior emerges and is sustained in organizations. In particular, his work examines moral disengagement in social contexts.
Ulf Schäfer received his PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Previously, he served as associate professor of practice at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan. From 2005 to 2019, he held the role of program director for executive education at ESMT, where he designed and implemented more than 100 leadership development programs for executives from around the world. His professional experience also includes managerial roles at Sapient and DaimlerChrysler, as well as a consulting position at A.T. Kearney. At ESMT, Schäfer will teach strategy execution, leadership, and business ethics. With his appointment, the international faculty at ESMT now comprises 48 members from 18 countries.
“Returning to ESMT Berlin is a natural step, given my long-standing connection with the school. I am eager to build on this foundation and to support ESMT’s continued development as a key European hub for responsible leadership education,” says Ulf Schäfer.
