Joachim Gassen is a distinguished affiliate professor at ESMT Berlin, holds the chair for financial accounting and auditing, and is head of the Institute of Accounting and Auditing at Humboldt University of Berlin. He is an affiliate at the Center for Financial Reporting and Auditing (CFRA) at ESMT.
His research focuses on international accounting and the impact of accounting information on capital markets and corporate governance. He won several academic awards and is being published in leading national and international journals. He serves on numerous editorial boards.
Joachim enjoys teaching at undergraduate, graduate, PhD and executive levels. His consulting and scientific advisory work for several major German companies focuses on international accounting and investor relation related topics.
Joachim is a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA), the American Accounting Association (AAA), the Ausschuss Unternehmensrechnung of the Verein für Socialpolitik (VfS), the Berlin Doctoral Program of Economics and Management Science (BDPEMS), the Berlin Accounting Research Group (BARG), and the Academic Advisory Council of the Center for Financial Reporting and Auditing (CFRA), ESMT Berlin.
Before joining Humboldt University of Berlin, he worked as postdoctoral researcher at Ruhr University of Bochum, and was a visiting scholar at New York University and University of Wisconsin – Madison. He obtained his Diploma in Economics from the University of Münster (1995). His Doctorate (2000) and his Habilitation (2006) were awarded by the Ruhr University of Bochum.
