ESMT Berlin MBA students found first Net Impact chapter in Germany

Students from the MBA program at ESMT Berlin have founded the first Net Impact sustainability chapter in Germany. Net Impact, a global organization focused on using business skills to combat social and environmental problems, has more than 100,000 members from 324 chapters in 40 countries around the world.

The new chapter – currently made up of students, faculty, alumni, and staff from ESMT but open to anyone outside the school as well – aims to work with other business schools and universities to create a network and an “active platform” to discuss sustainability issues and their solutions and to take action.

Current ESMT MBA student Nikhil Bajpai, the founder of the Berlin chapter, says that Net Impact can play an important role in promoting awareness of sustainability and environmental issues globally.

“For us, climate change and the impact business has on our environment are the top priorities, with other areas of concern on the roadmap. Too many sectors are either ignorant about the effect they are having on the planet or have doubts about how to effectively address them. Net Impact offers an active platform for those who want this to change and who have ideas about how we can move towards a more sustainable future. As part of this global platform, people can learn from and work with each other. Together, we can bring any change we want. Net Impact at ESMT is utterly committed to this cause.”

As well as developing an active network, Bajpai says the ESMT Berlin Net Impact chapter is proactively looking to work with German businesses to create sustainability internships for students and job opportunities for members.

“We’re only just starting out, but we’d like to build relationships with major companies, as well as the growing Berlin start-up scene amongst others to create opportunities for our members to work with businesses on sustainability projects. We are currently looking for projects and opportunities and would like to invite companies to make use of this network and the expert knowledge on sustainability which is a signature of the curriculum here at ESMT.”
